Filehand Search 3.0 (the current version is 3.0 build 500). This
version requires .NET 2.0 or newer and will work on Windows XP and
Vista.
slightly older version (build 488) that requires .NET 1.1 (already on
most XP systems) and will work on XP and Windows 2000 (as long as you
install .NET). This version is otherwise identical in very way to
the abover version, except that it won't run on Vista.

If the installer tells you that you need to install .NET, get it
here.
(See below how to tell if .NET is already installed on your system.
See the sidebar to read about .NET.)

You have 30 days to register Filehand Search after you
install it. But since registration is free, you might as well just
do it now.
After 30 days, Filehand Search will still work, but with certain
restrictions:
- New files and changed files will not be indexed
- Only the first 10 results of a search are returned
- The extract browser is not functional On
.NET
Filehand Search uses a new technology from Microsoft
called .NET (see sidebar). Some, but not all computers with
Windows XP and Windows 2000 have it already. If you don't have it,
you will need to install it before Filehand Search will be able to run.
Here's how to determine if you have .NET installed:
Click on Start on your Windows desktop,
select Control Panel (in Win2000, select Settings, then
Control Panel), and then double-click the Add or Remove
Programs icon. When that window appears, scroll through the list of
applications. If you see Microsoft .NET Framework 1.0 or 1.1 listed,
then you have what you need to run Filehand Search.

System Requirements
Filehand Search runs on Windows XP Home and Pro, and Windows 2000.
(Sorry, it will not run on Windows 95/98/ME/NT.) You should have
at least 256MB of memory. For disk space, Filehand Search uses
about 20% of the size of the files that you will want to search.
You also need .NET Framework 1.1...
About Microsoft .NET
Filehand Search uses Microsoft .NET (pronounced "dot net")
technology.
The .NET Framework is free from Microsoft.
.NET comes with Windows XP. Early versions of XP came with .NET
1.0. But, you'll need .NET 1.0 or 1.1 to run Filehand.
Windows 2000 did not have .NET.
